Longevity

Genizon Biosciences has completed a genome-wide association study in its longevity program using separate pooled samples from 500 individuals over the age of 95 and 500 random controls. Genotyping was performed in collaboration with Perlegen Sciences using approximately 250,000 SNP markers distributed throughout the human genome.

This approach has resulted in the identification of several candidate regions associated with long life. Identification of the genes associated with these signals is expected to lead to an increased understanding of the genetic means by which humans avoid the many chronic diseases.
