Obesity

Genizon has completed a GWAS in obesity using over 1,500 patients and 1,500 controls from the Quebec founder population (QFP). A second GWAS was completed in the same population using 1,000 morbidly obese patients and an equivalent number of controls.

This approach has resulted in the identification of several genes and candidate regions and has confirmed the association of the FTO gene and MC4R locus with obesity.

The identified genes have been used to construct a GeneMap, consisting of networks of interacting disease genes and their biological pathways. Research into these and other regions is ongoing.
