Whole Genome Sequencing
Cantaloupe - A powerful resequencing technology
Cantaloupe is a versatile, benchtop, whole genome resequencing technology under development at Genizon.
Cantaloupe involves a series of molecular biology processes resulting in a reconstructed DNA sequence through a shotgun approach similar to that successfully used in the Human Genome Project.
Cantaloupe will allow Genizon a 3-4 fold reduction in time between the discovery of disease gene candidate regions and the identification of disease-causing mutations. Through comprehensive analysis of each DNA base, this technology will provide more accurate results and greater disease gene resolution. Eventually, Cantaloupe is expected to enable Genizon to bypass several steps in the gene discovery process by allowing the discovery of disease-susceptibility genes directly from patient DNA.
This technology is anticipated to require only 1 µg genomic DNA per sample, allowing one complete human genome on each chip. Cantaloupe allows re-sequencing at ultra low cost and high throughput and thus has significant potential to enable the analysis of the human genome's 3.3 billion letters for an individual at a cost of US$1,000, with a major impact on disease prevention and treatment.
