Biobank
Adult and legally competent patients or healthy controls enrolled in Genizon's gene discovery programs are given the option to participate in Genizon's Biobank, for which they provide separate consent (PDF in French).
Genizon's Biobank is a repository of DNA and clinical data that enhances the scientific approach taken by Genizon for gene discovery. All data in the Biobank are highly confidential and are protected through coding and anonymizing.
Genizon’s Biobank is governed by a Biobank Policy that was created in consultation with leading experts in the field of ethics and in compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.
Among other things, the Biobank can be used to:
- Provide thousands of controls for disease programs, thereby greatly increasing the statistical power of Genizon's gene mapping technology.
- Provide a database to rapidly identify potentially eligible participants for additional research programs.
- Study the genetic link between various diseases allowing the discovery of disease genes that predispose to more than one disease and the discovery of drugs that target several diseases with a common genetic origin.
- Promote collaborations with external private and institutional researchers to further the discovery of the genetic causes of common diseases and drug responses.
Genizon's Biobank is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge on the genetic contribution to disease and the large-scale discovery of disease genes.
